The University of Washington Analytical Service Center is an independent chemical analysis center, performing analyses for research and education related to environment, forest, ecology and agriculture. Advanced instrumentation within the center is capable of analyzing soil, plant and aqueous samples for physical, biological and chemical properties.

The Center instrumentation is chosen based upon different analytical requests, research projects and class requests. Sample preparation is available for samples if needed. All methods follow EPA or standard analytical methods and QC samples are used to assure quality. The center is certified by The State of Washington, Department of Ecology and serves customers both on and off the UW campus.

The center is equipped with advanced instruments to test available and total nutrients and trace metals. The center supplies quick, accurate results to all customers.

Dongsen Xue, manager of the Analytical Service Center, a BS and MS in soil chemistry and over 30 years of experience working analytical laboratories.The Analytical Service Center is located in Bloedel – 208 at the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences on the University of Washington campus.   • Auto-Analyzer, 500 Model Perstorp Analytical Co.: NH4 and NO3
  • Spectrophotometer and Extraction Machine: CEC
  • TOC/TN Analyzer: Total organic carbon, inorganic carbon, and total nitrogen in solution
  • ICP Thermo Scientific Inc. 6300
  • Shimadzu Gas Chromatograph
  • Mercury analyzer, EC, spectrophotometer, extraction machine, and dissolved O2 meters also are available to use
  • Ovens, drying racks, sieves and other basic sample preparation materials are available
