SEFS professor praises ‘Don’t Look Up’ as strong climate change lesson
UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Professor and former Dean of the UW College of the Environment Lisa Graumlich told Yahoo News that the new Netflix movie “Don’t Look Up” is an “evocative” parable about climate change.
The movie is a dark comedy about a comet headed toward Earth that parallels the climate crisis. In it, Jennifer Lawrence’s character is a Ph.D. student who discovers the comet. Graumlich said her story sounded familiar.
“To have ourselves not taken seriously, at times ridiculed by the press, to have politicians sometimes pay attention for a while but then lose their focus, for many of us it was very evocative of what we’ve experienced,” she told the outlet.
