Korena Mafune, Washington Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and National Geographic Explorer, had the opportunity to be part of National Geographic’s new show, Tasting Wild. The program follows world-renowned chef Melissa King as she discovers flavors from wild places like the Quinault temperate rainforest.

Korena, who completed her Ph.D. with Dan Vogt and Kristiina Vogt, is featured in Episode 5 ‘Forests,’ as she shows Chef Melissa around the rainforest while talking about the importance of fungal organisms. After learning about the harmony and balance of these ecosystems, they share a forest-to-table meal featuring foraged ingredients.

Tasting Wild is now streaming on Hulu. Get a taste of the show by watching the trailer here.
