A group of people in a forest with hardhats and safety gear on. On April 10, 2025 SEFS will be welcoming the Former Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands to Kane Hall for its annual Sustaining Our World lecture series. This year’s topic is “Climate Change And Resilience: How Science And Solutions Can Bring Society Together.”

Climate change can be a great unifier, if we will let it. From wildfires and distressed forests to drought, dust storms and sea level rise, climate change is impacting every corner of our state, our country, and our globe. It is indiscriminate to wealth, race, nationality, geography, and political affiliation in who it targets and impacts. No one is immune from its impacts. Yet, when we need to be coming together to address the greatest environmental crisis of our lifetime, our country, our world, appears to be descending deeper into polarization and paralysis. How did we get here? And how do we create a path forward that brings us together to ensure a planet we all can live on?

Join us for a lecture with Hilary Franz, Former Commissioner of Public Lands for Washington State, who has been on the front lines responding to climate change and bringing people together of diverse political, social and economic backgrounds to make our lands, waters and communities more resilient.

Join us in person at Kane Hall 110 or virtually from 7 – 8 pm on April 10, 2025
RSVP – this is a free event and open to the public
