2025 WPPF Annual Meeting Celebrates Students, Alumni, and Industry Connections
The Washington Pulp and Paper Foundation (WPPF) Annual Meeting was held on May 29, bringing together nearly 90 attendees—including current BSE students, alumni, UW faculty and staff, and representatives from the 30 companies that make up the Foundation.

The day provided an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of BSE students, including the presentation of the 2025 Student TAPPI Award to graduating senior Kavin Tran. Kavin served as the Student TAPPI Treasurer for the past two years and completed an internship with Nalco.
We also recognized outstanding alumni, presenting the 2025 Alumni of the Year Award to Kurt Haunreiter. Kurt, now a Senior Process Consultant with MEGI Engineering, previously served as the Lab Manager at the University of Washington.
Due to the renovation of Anderson Hall, this year’s events were held at the HUB, with lab tours hosted in Bloedel Hall and the closing banquet at the Burke Museum.
