Morris Johnson, an affiliate faculty member at the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, was recently featured in a Crosscut story about his work as a research fire scientist with the U.S. Forest Service.

Johnson also received his master of science and doctorate degrees from the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences. In the story, Johnson talks about his upbringing in the South, how he took a Greyhound bus from Louisiana to Oregon for his first experience with the U.S. Forest Service and how he uses computer models to help predict fire hazards in Pacific Northwest forests.

He says his favorite part of his work is going to the scenes of burning wildfires and helping forest managers understand how field treatments change fire behavior.
