A UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Ph.D. student and her work on the affect wildfires and smoke have on farmworkers is the subject of a recent story in Crosscut.

Maria Blancas, a SEFS Ph.D. student and staff member of the UW Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences, was also the recipient of the 2019 Bullitt Environmental Prize for her work with immigrant farmworkers in Washington.

She is the daughter of farmworkers and her work includes leading a collaboration between UW researchers and farmworkers in Skagit and Whatcom counties.
