New lidar product of global building height launches, led by SEFS Alumnus Guang Zheng and Professor L. Monika Moskal

In his time at UW, Guang Zheng was the first PhD student in SEFS Professor L. Monika Moskal’s Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis Laboratory. Last year, Zheng returned as a visiting professor from Nanjing University to work with Moskal on using a space-born lidar sensor, the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI), on the International Space Station to produce global maps of building heights.

A message from Dan Brown, SEFS Director: Winter 2023

As a busy and successful quarter draws to a close, the SEFS community gathered again this month for our annual holiday party, a tradition reaching back decades. Seeing many new and returning faces in the Forest Club room, marveling at the ingenuity of gingerbread creations for our second annual SEFS Gingerbread Competition, and reflecting on the last few months together was a welcome reminder of the passionate and creative community we have here at SEFS.

SEFS assistant professor named Highly Cited Researcher

SEFS associate professor Greg Bratman was featured on the annual Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list from Clarivate, alongside over 40 UW researchers who received the honor this year.
Bratman was listed in the “cross-field impact” category, which recognizes researchers who focus on interdisciplinary work and contribute multiple highly cited papers in several different fields.
