SEFS research scientist among a chorus of wildfire experts supporting forest thinning
As the recent wildfire season lingers in the minds of many, research scientists, including UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences’ Susan Prichard, are calling for more thinning of forests.
Prichard and many other scientists escalated the fight to save forests after Chad Hanson, an environmentalist, said the 2021 Caldor Fire near Lake Tahoe shows forest thinning doesn’t work.

UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Professor Emeritus and former Washington Park Arboretum Director Dr. John A. Wott passed away on Aug. 28. He was 82.
Dr. Wott, who earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from Ohio State University in 1961, and then his master’s degree (1966) and Ph.D.

SEFS research scientist co-authors urgent request for change in face of climate change, wildfires
A UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences research scientist has co-authored, along with a team of scientists from leading research universities, conservation and organizations and government labs across the western U.S., a report that aims to give land managers and others across the West resources that summarize the best-available science, so they can make decisions about how to manage their landscapes.
