Last month, we marked the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, which President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law on September 3, 1964. In defining wilderness and ultimately protecting more than 109 million acres of federal land, the act was a brilliant and far-reaching piece of legislation.

With three new faculty members joining SEFS this fall—Professors David Butman, Peter Kahn and Patrick Tobin—we’re excited to introduce our new colleagues and welcome them to the community!
First up for introductions is Tobin, who joins us as an assistant professor after spending more than 11 years with the U.S.

For the month of October, we are very pleased to feature an exhibition of photographs by John Tylczak in the Forest Club Room! Tylczak (pronounced tile-zack) grew up in Shelton, Wash., where four generations of his family have lived since 1885; his grandfather, in fact, was the executor of Agnes Anderson’s estate.
