- Aligning Processing Capacity and Market Demand with Fuel Reduction and Ecosystem Restoration Projects
This project will help the USFS and DNR align unmet processing capacity, potential investments, and market demand with Good Neighbor Authority restoration projects, considering the economic impact of increased wood supply at an HUC 6 level resulting from treatments. The overall goal is to develop analytical tools for assessing log-market availability and market impact in order to efficiently prioritize investments.
- Assessing International Market Trends, Opportunities, and Threats for the US Softwood Lumber Industry
CINTRAFOR researchers are analyzing large amounts of data from multiple sources for a better understanding of global trade flows in softwood logs and lumber, looking particularly for changing patterns of trade, shifts in market share, and important regional markets. The initial findings will lead to targeted field research to investigate more fully significant trends, opportunities, and threats for the U.S. industry.
