UW Predator-Prey Project highlighted by The Spokesman-Review
An ongoing study of the relationships between Washington predators and their prey that involves three UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences graduate students received new attention last month. That’s because the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife released a 13-minute video at a WA DNR commission meeting to show the purpose of the multiyear study, according to a recent story by The Spokesman-Review.

SEFS Professor Lawler named 2021 fellow of Ecological Society of America
Congratulations to UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Professor Josh Lawler, who has been named a 2021 fellow of the Ecological Society of America. Fellows are elected for life, and the honor recognizes scientists who advance or apply ecological knowledge in academics, government, nonprofits and the broader society.

Butman co-authors paper on carbon, global change for Nature Communications
UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Associate Professor David Butman co-authored a paper on carbon and global change that was recently published in the journal Nature Communications.
The paper, titled “Substantial decrease in CO2 emissions from Chinese inland waters due to global change,” was published in February 2021.
Professor Kahn featured in short documentary, ‘Forgetting Nature’
UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Professor Peter Kahn is featured in a new documentary about humankind and its connection to nature.
The short documentary, “Forgetting Nature,” was created by British-based filmmaker Ross Harrison and is now free to stream, according to a UW News story.

SEFS Professor Doty, lab awarded nearly $6.4 million to study microorganisms in poplar trees
UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Professor Sharon Doty received a large grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to understand how, at a molecular level, microorganisms within the poplar tree microbiome can affect the host plant’s health and stress tolerance.
