Graduate Student Completion Fellowships
SEFS has limited fellowship funds available for graduate students who would benefit from a final quarter of financial support without research or teaching obligations in order to focus on completion of their thesis or dissertation.
Details
- Apply 1-2 quarters in advance of the quarter in which you are planning to defend your thesis and to use the Fellowship, if awarded, i.e.:
- Autumn fellowships, apply during the previous Winter or Spring quarter.
- Winter fellowships, apply during the previous Autumn or Spring quarter.
- Spring fellowships, apply during the previous Autumn or Winter quarter.
- Summer Fellowships, apply during the previous Winter or Spring quarter.
- Requests are due by the fourth Monday of each academic year quarter (Autumn, Winter, Spring). No summer requests are accepted.
- Awards will be announced by the ninth week of the quarter in which you applied.
- This award provides one quarter of support at RA-equivalent rates (tuition, stipend, benefits).
- Requests will be reviewed by the SEFS Scholarship Committee, who will make recommendations for final funding decisions to the Director.
- Awards will be credited to the student’s UW Student Account
- A short thank you note to the fund donor is required.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be a SEFS M.S. or Ph.D. student in good academic standing.
- Ph.D. students must be in candidate status
- Applicants must not have RA or TA funding for the quarter in which they use the funds.
- Students must apply up to two academic-year quarters in advance of when the need is anticipated.
- Students are expected to not be employed for more than ten hours per week during the period of the fellowship.
- Students may receive funds only once during their graduate program(s) at SEFS.
Criteria
Funds are limited and will be distributed based on
- current status of thesis or dissertation work
- feasibility of the completion plan
- need for funds
