SEFS Student Procedures

School of Environmental and Forest Science Procedure for Undergraduates to File to Graduate in BSE, SBSE or ESRM

  1. List out all your remaining classes in your MyPlan quarterly plan in the My Academic Year section that you need to complete your degree and any minors you are completing.
  2. If you need to add a minor or drop a minor, please email sefsadv@uw.edu with your student number and the name of the minor you are dropping.  This must be completed prior to applying to graduate.
  3. Audit your Plan (located immediately below the Degree Audit link in MyPlan) against both your degree and any minors you have.  This will compare all your completed courses, all your in-progress courses, and all your planned courses against your degree/minor requirements.
  4. If your goal is to apply for Department Honors (which requires a Capstone) or complete a Senior Capstone, you need to have at least submitted the necessary application form.
  5. If you are a REEH Option student, you must select your Capstone or Capstone course substitution option via the necessary form on the Forms page.
  6. You must also have submitted all course petitions that you need to submit for classes you have completed or are planning to take between now and graduation. Petitions are available on the SEFS Student Forms page. It is important to use the current petition forms rather than any old versions you might have saved.

Once you have everything above completed, the actual graduation application is easy. You can do it by any one of these possible options

  • Preferred, if you don’t have long questions where a conversation with an Advisor is needed: Sending advising a notification via sefsadv@uw.edu that you have completed the above steps and want to graduate XXX quarter – let us know which quarter, and please also provide your student number in the email. Please ask any questions you might have as well.  We will verify everything is in order, complete our part of the graduation application, and then send you a confirmation and reminder of next steps.
  • You can also come to drop-in advising Fridays in person or drop in to Friday drop-in Zoom advising – check in online by filling out the Check-In form at this Canvas course you can join.  This takes 5-10 minutes.
  • If you have other questions or concerns, you can self-schedule a longer advising appointment – see the Advising Information page to find the appointment link.

NOTE: Once Advising submits your graduation application, you will receive an email from the UW that will include a link to your part of the graduation application.  You must confirm and submit your application confirmation before you have actually applied to graduate.
