    Research areas

Jaminfaye is interested in exploring the potential for renewable resources and waste products to be converted into sustainable bioproducts. Currently, her research is based around the conversion of thermomechanical pulp fibers, made from softwood trees, into “lignocellulosic nanofibrils” or LCNFs which are nanosized cellulose based polymers. They’re strong, lightweight and biodegradable giving them high potential for use in ecofriendly food packaging, bioplastics and more. By using low cost feedstocks to create high value, environmentally friendly products, we can reduce the usage of forever chemicals like PFAS, petroleum based plastics while creating a more circular economy.
