SEFS Commencement Ceremony – Celebrating the Graduating Class of 2025

On Thursday, June 13, SEFS came together to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of the graduating class of 2025. We opened up the ceremony with remarks from SEFS Director, Dan Brown, who acknowledged that the graduating class of 2025 is equipped with the knowledge, skills and passion needed to tackle the complex challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss and human demand for natural goods and services.

The socio-ecological niche: how can we better understand the roles of non-human species in modern socio-ecological systems?

SEFS Assistant Professor Alex McInturff runs the People and Wildlife Lab here at the University of Washington. McInturff’s recent research published in People and Nature helps us better understand a human-altered planet by bringing social science to life in niche ecology – his team is calling this concept “The Socio-Ecological Niche” or SEN for short.

SEFS 2025 Commencement Speaker: J. Cameron Crump, UW alumni and Forest Resources Division Manager at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources

Cameron Crump is currently the Forest Resources Division Manager at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) where she leads the Silviculture, Informatics, and Habitat Conservation Plan sections for 2.1 million acres of forested state trust lands.
