Darryll Johnson, a longtime School of Environmental and Forest Sciences researcher, has passed away.
Johnson was the longtime leader of the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) stationed at SEFS, which was preceded by the Cooperative Park Studies Unit in the College of Forest Resources.

Doctoral student Olivia Sanderfoot and her study of how social distancing is impacting birds was recently featured in Portland Monthly.
Sanderfoot, who was studying the effects of prescribed burns on birds, pivoted her research when the COVID-19 global pandemic reached the Pacific Northwest.

Researchers at the University of Washington Quantitative Ecology Lab have launched a community science program through eBird to monitor birds in urban and suburban neighborhoods across the Pacific Northwest while social distancing measures are in place:
LOCATION: We are recruiting volunteers to monitor birds in their own backyard or their favorite local green space — a place they can walk to without violating current shelter-in-place orders.
